Prepare Your Vacation Trailer For Transport

Posted on

An RV travel trailer model that is unpowered may currently be sitting on your vacation property, but at the end of the summer season, you need to determine how to transport your trailer back to your primary residence. If one of your vehicles contains a tow bar, but the truck is currently being repaired, hiring a travel trailer transporter is an alternative.

Motorized And Non-Motorized Trailers Are Accepted

Motorized and non-motorized trailers are accepted through a transport service. With a motorized vehicle, an individual can be hired to drive the vehicle to its destination. Non-motorized vehicles will either be towed by a large vehicle or secured to a flatbed truck. The size and weight of your trailer will determine which type of towing service will be utilized.

If your vehicle is going to be hitched to a vehicle, a tow bar or 5th wheel attachment will be used. If your trailer is large in size and weighs a lot, it will be secured to a flatbed truck. Contact a transport service and let a representative know what your intentions are.

Provide the pickup location, the date that you will need the transport service, and the make and model of your recreational vehicle. You should prepare to be present during the service call, since you may need to provide some additional information. If you decide that it will be more convenient to follow the vehicle that is being used to transport your trailer, specify this during the reservation process.

The Inside And Outside Needs To Be Prepared

Loose items inside of your trailer, flat tires, a canopy, and patio furnishings should be addressed, prior to having your trailer transported. If you have spent several months at your vacation property, take a good look at the property and the trailer's interior and exterior, to determine what needs to be cleaned up, repaired, and secured.

Work on the outdoor property and the vehicle's exterior, before tackling the packing up of items that are inside of the trailer. Since the trailer will be in motion during the transportation process, shelving, cabinetry, and lightweight furnishings could become damaged while the trailer is being moved.

Use heavy-duty straps or locking devices to secure kitchen or bathroom cabinets or other items that contain a front entry door. Move heavy items up toward the front of the trailer, so that they don't become airborne while the trailer is being moved. Throw away garbage and place additional loose items inside of heavy-duty storage crates. Reach out to an RV travel trailer transport service near you.
