3 Tips To Save On Air Freight

Posted on

If you operate a large business or have to ship your products a long way, you might have found that air freight is a great option for getting your products out there. However, you might be worried that you are spending too much money on shipping. Luckily, there are a few different ways that you can reduce the costs of air freight, so give these tips a try to save your company a little bit -- or a lot -- of money.

1. Know when to Use Ground Shipping Instead

Air freight shipping is a good option if you are shipping out a huge shipment, if you want your shipment to be shipped a long distance in a short amount of time, or if you are shipping your products overseas. In other situations, however, you might find that ground shipping is a cheaper option. Always keep an eye on pricing for both types of shipping to ensure that you're getting the best deal. For example, when you are sending out smaller shipments, aren't sending your products quite as far or aren't worried about your products arriving within a tight time frame, ground shipping might be your best choice.

2. Work Directly with the Air Freight Transporter

Many companies use an air freight negotiation company to help them find the best air freight options for their products. In many cases, however, you do not need the services of one of these companies. Try calling and contacting the air freight provider yourself, and compare pricing. Although you can obviously expect an air freight negotiation company to charge a fee, you might be surprised by how much you are paying and how much you can save by working with the company directly.

3. Split Cargo Space With Another Company

If you want to take advantage of air freight but don't have a huge shipment to send out, you could be paying more for shipping than you have to. Try working with local companies; then you can put your products on the same transport plane and can split a shipment, which can allow you to both enjoy better rates.

As you can see, air freight does not have to be as expensive as you think. If you follow these tips, you can save a lot of money on air freight while still getting your products out to your suppliers and customers as quickly as possible.
